Plans for car -free Las Vegas Strip

The Las Vegas Strips is known for shine and glamor worldwide. Numerous luxurious casino hotels are lined up on the strip under the glow of colorful neon lights. The Strip has been a large crowd puller and one of the most popular travel destinations for people from all over the world for years. A large sheet metal avalanche on cars has always rolled through there every day. Now, however, the political side has been considered to shut down car traffic. This should first happen on a weekend morning and may be extended later.

First temporary closures

The idea of the possible blocking for cars came from the Clark County Commissioner Tick Segerblom. Segerblom refers to statements by tourists who praised the closures during the NFL Drafts. “The closure of the strip is an interesting aspect of the draft-I think we should think about doing this permanently, people love to stroll between the buildings,” the commissioner posted on his Twitter channel. The design initially provides for temporary closures. Car traffic should be released on a weekend morning. Walkers, cyclists and runners should then be able to move freely on the street. Segerblom stated that if this came across positive feedback, then the closure could be considered. He planned to the hotels on the strip promptly to advance the measure.

Car-free zone is not uncommon in Las Vegas

The past proves that a car-free gambling mile is not uncommon. For years, Downtown counted for the center of gambling in Las Vegas. The Binion`s Horseshoe and the Golden Nugget counted as “large numbers”. Gambling shifted to the strip more and more. In 1992 the strip had a share of 80 percent of gambling in Las Vegas. The “Fremont Street Experience” project was founded to make downtown more attractive.

63 million US dollars were invested for roofing and a light show. In September 1994, a large part of the Freemont Street was closed to car traffic and the groundbreaking ceremony for the project was initiated. After work on the street, room scaffolding was introduced in February 1995 and the roof took on structures. The construction was completed in July 1995. In the meantime, the Fremont Street is one of the most popular destinations in Las Vegas.

Terrain with numerous attractions

The strip has a length of around 6.8 kilometers and comprises a large number of resort hotels and casinos. The breathtaking skyline is particularly formative. The first casino was built on the strip in 1931. The first resort followed ten years later. The strip grew rapidly, especially from the 1960s. Artists like Elvis Presley ran in Las Vegas. With the Bellagio Was built in the 90s with $ 1.7 billion the most expensive hotel at that time. With the mystery show and the Cirque de Soleil, a turning point took place in 1993 and the strip finally turned into an entertainment sector.

Since the 2000s, parts of the strip have become more and more towards the luxurious sector. Professional sporting events take place on or in the vicinity of the strip. The Vegas Golde Knights play in the T-Mobile Arena and the Las Vegas Raiders in the Allegian Stadium. Further huge projects are planned for the coming years.
